- Synopsis
- [From the back cover:] "Becky thinks her birthday will be terrible. Becky is feeling miserable. It's almost her birthday, but this year no one seems to care. She probably won't even get to have her favorite ice cream! Becky knows her family is too poor to buy presents. But why do they have to be so mean to her? Why do they keep whispering behind her back and leaving her out?" This upbeat story is set in the mid twentieth century and depicts the everyday interactions between siblings as they are alternately jealous, helpful, understanding, irritated, and ultimately loving. Money is hard to come by for this family. Though they often wish they could have more of the things they want and need, they generally make the best of what they have and celebrate even the smallest treats. They make good times even in the midst of hard times. RL3 007-010
