From the introduction:
"I don't know about you, but I go through life constantly being reminded of jokes. No matter what the situation, a joke invariably pops into my little pea-brain, crowding out whatever it is I should be paying attention to at the time. For example, a few days ago I was walking my two dogs. As one of them stopped to (how do I put this delicately) polish a fire hydrant, this gag came to mind: "Two dogs are walking down the street. Dumb criminals, cowardly politicians, spiteful spouses, and hilarious gags? Can't beat that combo. Which is what impelled me to go to the powers that be at Reader's Digest and suggest that I write this book. Which, of course, reminded me of a joke..."
