- Synopsis
English Description A unique historical novel interwoven with fantasy and reality, which depicts the end of the Mexican colony from the perspective of the counter-revolutionaries. A novel of the adventures of a mestizo teenager and his adoptive Spanish father. History, fantasy, and adventures await. . . Juan de los Reyes Baca y Pino is a Navajo adolescent adopted by don Pedro Bautista Pino, who narrates the end of the Spanish colony and the birth of independence through his own eyes. With mixed, vivid imagery, the author skillfully reconstructs another point of view from this time period in Mexico: that of the conservatives. Juan leaves for Cádiz along with don Pedro, and it is from there that he describes for us the pointlessness of the revolutionary coup. In the end, many of those who were against the revolution ended up changing sides and fighting for independence just to continue governing, meaning that the destiny of the Americas remained firmly in the same hands as always.
