- Synopsis
- Meg Donahue has lived frugally with her grandmother, a staunch Christian woman, most of her sixteen years. In obedience to a promise to her grandmother, Meg writes to her uncle Barney Donahue after her grandmother's death and he offers her a home at Sycamore Park, famed for its horse racing stables. She finds life very different there. While trying to come to terms with her new life, she witnesses flagrant dishonesty and criminal behavior, becomes involved in the underground railroad, makes new friends, and falls in love. She also tries to solve the riddle of Marietta's marriage to her detestable cousin Mike.
