- In 1973, Wallaston (1904-83) set out his account of his family's attempts to homestead in the harsh plains around Ismay, Montana from 1910 to the 1920s. He begins with the move from the Dakotas, and proceeds through World War I and the beginning of Prohibition to the town's early signs of demise as the Great Depression settled.
