This is another one of those stories based upon the legend of the Abominable Snowman or yeti. Jordan Blake and his sister Nicole are taken by their nature photographer father to Alaska where he has been commissioned to find the Abominable Snowman. There are several local legends around such a creature and their guide Arthur Maxwell knows a number of them. The expedition does not get off to a good start. Arthur does not like having children with him especially since they are a surprise and he is very afraid of the Abominable Snowman. As they trek to the cabin, Jordan falls into a crevasse. He is rescued and the expedition continues. In due course, they arrive and in the morning, find deep footprints at the front of the cabin. It turns out though that they have been made by Jordan as a practical joke. Eventually, Jordan and Nicol get separated from their father and encounter the Abominable Snowman himself. He seems to taking a liking to trail mix (a kind of ration) and is gentle with the children. Their father captures him and brings him to California. The children accidentally cause the yeti to escape and their father a chance to show his discovery to the world. There seems to be too much joking and the children even with the best of intentions cannot stay out of trouble. I won't call this book a must read; not enough atmosphere has been created and too much space is taken up in detailing the interaction between Jordan, Nicol and everyone else. Written by Pranav Lal
