- Synopsis
- "What I Didn't Learn in Business School" is a fictional account that follows new consultant Justin Campbell as he joins an elite team hired by a chemical firm to assess the potential of a newly developed technology. Justin meets with the firm's chief financial officer, who challenges Justin's assumptions about financial analysis. Thankfully, with feedback from more experienced colleagues Justin begins to understand the role of a CFO. In this chapter, authors Jay Barney and Trish Gorman Clifford show how financial analysis often fails to present clear logic, how individual biases and corporate politics can affect a company's financial analysis, and how to develop better real-world strategies for dealing with these issues. This chapter was originally published as Chapter 2 of "What I Didn't Learn in Business School: How Strategy Works in the Real World."
