- Synopsis
- "We are one people with one struggle and one destiny" -- Maurice Bishop. Inspired by that perspective, organizations from throughout the Caribbean and Central America joined together in Havana, Cuba, in June 1984 to forge the broadest unity in the region's history. The Anti-Imperialist Organizations of the Caribbean and Central America embraces political groups from more than twenty English-, Spanish-, French-, Dutch-, and Creole-speaking countries. Its meetings are a forum to exchange experiences on struggles by peoples throughout the region against U.S. and other imperialist domination. The speeches and resolutions collected here discuss Nicaragua's ongoing revolution the liberation struggle in El Salvador, Puerto Rico's fight for independence, the Caribbean since the U.S. invasion of Grenada, Panama's struggle for national sovereignty, the independence fight in the French and Dutch colonies, Washington's failure to isolate the Cuban revolution, the region's crushing foreign debt, and more. Don Rojas is secretary for propaganda and information of the Anti-Imperialist Organizations of the Caribbean and Central America; he also represents Grenada's Maurice Bishop Patriotic Movement on its Coordinating Committee. In 1982-83 Rojas served as press secretary to Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. Barred by Grenada's U.S.-imposed government, Rojas now lives in Havana, Cuba.
