- Synopsis
- In 1875, the North Carolina constitution prohibited interracial marriage, punishable by imprisonment and confiscation of all property. John Morgan was white. Susan was of Indian and black heritage. They lived together as husband and wife during a time when this law was strictly enforced. Faced with persecution, viewed with disgust, all their victories and defeats, every hope and every tear, were merely a question of color.
