- Unternehmen sind ständig gezwungen, sich gegenüber ihren Wettbewerbern zu differenzieren, da eine zunehmende Homogenität und Transparenz von Produkten und Dienstleistungen zu verzeichnen ist. Daneben führen stagnierende bzw. schrumpfende Märkte und eine zunehmende Wettbewerbsintensität zu einem steigenden Preisdruck. Häufig eingesetzte Differenzierungsmöglichkeiten sind die Produkt-, Dienstleistungs- und Prozess-Innovation, die allerdings in vielen Fällen schnell nachgeahmt werden können. In den letzten Jahren ist stattdessen die Geschäftsmodell-Innovation in den Fokus der Theorie und Praxis gelangt. Ein Geschäftsmodell orientiert sich an Kundenbedürfnissen, kombiniert unterschiedliche Elemente eines Unternehmens und stiftet somit einen Kundennutzen. Da innovative Geschäftsmodelle meist komplex sind (z.B. aufgrund einer Service-Infrastruktur) und eine starke Kundenbindung ermöglichen (z.B. mittels der Kopplung an ein System); zudem ermöglichen innovative Geschäftsmodelle eine bessere Differenzierung gegenüber Wettbewerbern. Das vorliegende Buch ist insbesondere für Unternehmen bzw. Organisationen relevant, die ihr bestehendes Geschäftsmodell anpassen oder ein neues Geschäftsmodell entwickeln möchten. Das Buch kann ebenso in der Lehre einsetzt werden, da Lernende die Möglichkeit erhalten, unternehmerisch zu denken und ein eigenes Geschäftsmodell zu entwickeln.
