- Synopsis
- Written in the high tongue of Kyran-non, this delightful fantasy concerns the gentle lives of folk living in harmony with nature, who are interrupted by a greedy tyrant. A woman and her daughter live cloistered in a magical forest, but the appearance of a hunter from the city of Lirith heralds the battle to come. Using their powers, they send him on his way, but they become aware of the intentions of the King of Lirith. The King is now moving against the Raithes, a family who raises powerful horses which the King desires for himself. His soldiers scatter all the Raithes they do not kill, but the mother and daughter rescue one, Perrin, and later aid his sister Shanah. It is Shanah who eventually combines all their powers and goes to Lirith to confront the King.
