Patriotism or practical joke?
Harrison, NH -- Ninth-grade student Philip Malloy was suspended from school for singing along to The Star-Spangled Banner in his homeroom, causing what his teacher, Margaret Narwin, called "a disturbance." But was he standing up for his patriotic ideals, only to be squelched by the school system? Was Ms. Narwin simply trying to be a good teacher? Or could it all be just a misunderstanding gone bad -- very bad? What is the truth here? Can it ever be known?
Heroism, hoax, or mistake, what happened at Harrison High changes everything for everyone in ways no one -- least of all Philip -- could have ever predicted.

This book is an interesting read. The protagonists name is Phillip Malloy. He begins humming and singing loudly during the national anthem, when they are instructed to be silent. Phillip ends up being sent to the Assistant Principal and on his third violation he is suspended. He does not inform his parents of the silent rule. Due to this, they believe it is the school's fault and they are violating his civil rights. This book written by Avi has many kinds of formats. Therefore, it shows everyone's point of view. "Nothing but the Truth" is also a quick read. I recommend this novel to someone that does not have a lot of time, because most of the chapters are fairly short. I liked how the story shows that a problem can start small and grow to a huge conflict.
