- Synopsis
- Weary travelers. You've seen them- everything they own crammed into their luggage. Staggering through terminals and hotel lobbies with overstuffed suitcases, trunks, duffels and backpacks. Backs ache. Feet burn. Eyelids droop. We've all seen people like that. At times, we are people like that-if not with our physical luggage, then at least with our spiritual load. We all lug loads we were never intended to carry. Fear. Worry. Discontent. No wonder we get so weary. We're worn out from carrying that excess baggage. Wouldn't it be nice to lose some of those bags? That's the invitation of Max Lucado. With the twenty-third Psalm as our guide, let's release some of the burdens we were never intended to bear.

Max Lucado uses the twenty-third Psalm combined with humorous anecdotes to point out the similarities between Davids life and our own.
The use of other scriptures reinforces the twenty-third Psalm, and offers Christian answers for our emotional questions and needs.
Lucados humor and encouragement lightens the gravity of death, fear, discontent, and so many other harsh emotions we face during our lives. This book encourages us to look at our emotions and behavior in a serious, but light hearted way. It was easy to see me in some of the embarrassing awkward situations he described. Being able to laugh at some of the stories made the more serious side of them easier to apply to myself.
The main theme of this book is how to get past those things that would steal our joy of life and move toward the freedom that God has for us.

This book discusses The 23rd Psalm in depth and explains each verse. For me, it was a time of spiritual growth. The way the author writes really draws the reader in. It was a very comforting book. I felt like it was written just for me.
