Una niña mujer contempla el río. Está apoyada contra el suave
tronco de un álamo y trata de esconderse de los ojos vigilantes de la
ciudad. Mira el agua plateada que se muere despacio contra la costa
de la ciudad. Hace frío pero ella no lo siente. Mira el río y más allá,
hacia algún lugar que está lejos…
Corre el año 1801. La silueta de Buenos Aires se dibuja y se recorta contra el cielo celeste, blanco y gris. Algunas esclavas negras están machacando la ropa contra las toscas del río, se mueven, se ríen y hablan, mientras los hermanos Balboa —Don Andrés y Doña Soledad— desembarcan en sus costas llenos de sueños e ideas liberales.
Andrés ha dejado atrás Sevilla para llegarse hasta el fin del mundo, Buenos Aires, la tierra que lo vio nacer.
