Marie-France y Julio reajustan su recuperada y pasional relación amorosa mientras analizan el lenguaje de Aznar, tema de la tesis doctoral de ella.
Veinticinco años después de conocerse en Salamanca, Marie-France, profesora, y Julio, periodista, se reencuentran en Toulouse, ciudad que será testigo del renacer de su amor. Este estalla en una pasión de cuarentones conscientes de que necesitan cariño y sexo, especialmente la francesa, ahogada por la miseria del maltrato.
El ardor amoroso lo vuelcan en su capacidad creativa: la tesis doctoral que ella elabora y él alimenta, para analizar el lenguaje de José M. Aznar en su recorrido político desde que aparece en Castilla y León. Culta, comprometida, la pareja recrea y recobra la pasión amorosa y la intensidad del estudio entre Madrid, Salamanca, Mogarraz, Toulouse y Cordes-sur-Ciel su «particular cielo recreado», dicen, donde el sexo se sublimó, donde se suceden una serie de episodios, algunos de los cuales reconstruyen recorridos del pasado, con la dentellada del dolor y con la felicidad del cariño.
Marie-France y Julio entran y salen por los portales de la ficción y de la realidad, se entrecruzan con personajes y hechos reales y con otros creados por el autor, y con todos se relaciona el rocoso Aznar, que comenzó a deshilar su lenguaje durante la transición política.
Julio, a su vez, hallará un tema de estudio en el exilio español en Francia: Marie-France es hija de un adolescente que llegóa Toulouse al final de la guerra civil y que participó en la Resistencia. La hoy historiadora lamenta que su padre no refiriera a ella y a su hermana Claire -¡menudo personaje, esa doctora!- las zozobras y pasiones que vivió.
Marie-France se vuelca en el trabajo y entra en contacto con el mundo de Julio. No deja de pensar, sin embargo, que a la pareja le va demasiado bien y Julio debe esforzarse en contener un riesgo de recaída, aunque sin eludir que, como señaló Fernando Pessoa, «un día llegarán a la curva del camino, pero por ahora sabemos que allí no estamos».
