- Synopsis
- In Cleveland in 1852, the shipping season for sailing vessels was just beginning. Clarissa Meade did so want to sail on one of her father's ships, but she was a sixteen year old girl, in a very proper family. About all she could expect was a short jaunt down to Buffalo; but she wanted so much more! Clarissa's grandfather persuaded her mother and father to let Clarissa sail with him on his ship 'The Samantha,' and she rescued a girl named Abby Wells who had gotten separated from her family on the crouded docks of Buffalo. Clarissa and Abby became fast friends and each found a bit of romance while aboard 'The Samantha'. A lighthearted novel for teens and older readers.
