- Synopsis
- I have no laws posted on the walls of my house for my wife to follow; nor does she for me. Love is not like that. Love does not live under written rules and regulations in human families and among friends. There are unwritten rules, of course. Etiquette, courtesy social norms, marital vows are all "rules" but they are not written. Though Emily Post and others tried to codify the rules of etiquette, no set of rules could ever possibly be set down that would cover every faux pas of social contact. There are always exceptions and unique situations for which there are no rules. It is the same in Father's house. He does not desire us to discover rules in His sacred scriptures. He wishes us to discover Him. What kind of a marriage would dictate rules to a spouse? He, our heavenly Father, does not wish us to relate to Him with rules, either. His only rule is love. All of humanity would rejoice, never fear anyone, never hurt anyone if we all lived in complete love toward one another. Love cannot be generated or coerced. It is a relationship which springs from within in response to coming to know the other. When Paul's love description is fully realized in all of us, we shall truly be in heaven. It is not that we are lawless in this new state of being. It is a higher, infinitely higher Law--the Law of Love. It demands more, but, unlike written codes, also supplies the keeping of it. May Father open our hearts into relationship with Him and tear away the blinders that keep us bound to written rules, ordinances, codes and regulations.
