- Synopsis
- Morse (International Development Centre, U. of Reading, UK) and three colleagues (from Diocesan Development Services, Nigeria) study the ability to measure agricultural sustainability in one small Nigerian village after the onset of structural adjustment programs. Their definition of sustainability is system-wide rather than divided into good versus bad practices. Looking at production and consumption patterns, livelihood, and finance, they find that, while sustainability can be contemplated, permanence is impossible to count on, thereby making the measurement of sustainability near impossible.
