- Synopsis
- Castle Perilous is a witty, whimsical 250 page fantasy novel first published in 1988 and written by the warmly recognized john DeChancie. This is the first in a series of novels highlighting exciting and bizarre adventures in Lord Incarnadine's castle, a gigantic structure of many towers and labyrinthine passages held together by a mysterious magic spell stone. In Castle Perilous, a former graduate student in philosophy accidentally stumbles into the castle through one of its many portals and discovers that it is inhabited by thieves, intriguing guests, and monsters and surrounded by a besieging army, all of whom have designs on the castle's spell stone and its fabulous treasures. Here is a sampling of the novel's tributes appearing on the preliminary pages: "John DeChancie has written a wild and original fantasy novel. Castle Perilous is just plain nifty!" -Craig Shaw Gardner "Castle Perilous. It's got everything: unremitting action, laughs, and a heart-stopping climax if ever I read one." -Esther Friesner, author of New York by Knight
