- Synopsis
- Florence Musgrave's flair for warm family stories with interesting situations flourishes when she tells of a father and daughter in the old Chautauqua circuit. (The ""Chautauqua"" was a group of itinerant ""cultured"" show people, musicians, lecturers, etc., that started at the beginning of the century at Lake Chautauqua, N.Y., and travelled to improve the towns they visited.) Motherless, cello-playing Susan, with her father again after nine years in a Home, is hard put to find contemporary companionship. But her satisfaction from playing their stands in small West Virginia towns and the growing love for her shy father win out over a tempting invitation to stay and live with a family she meets along the way, and Susan becomes a trouper.
