- Este es el primer libro de Rubén Gallego (Moscú, 1968), El hecho de que su autor sea un paralítico cerebral obligado por su enfermedad a escribir con un solo dedo es el primer dato insólito que presenta este trabajo. Pero no debe el lector esperar un relato autocompasivo sobre esta minusvalía en primera persona sino que se trata del relato de la superación, de la victoria de lo humano sobre la enfermedad, el daño y el horror. "Escribo sobre la fuerza. Sobre la fuerza que se encuentra en cada uno de nosotros. Sobre la fuerza que rompe todas las barreras, sobre la fuerza que vence. Cada uno de mis relatos es el relato de una victoria", dice Gallego. Y, en efecto, su propio relato es el de un vencedor. Gallego nació en Moscú en 1968, en la clínica del Kremlin. Ahí llevaron a su madre de urgencias gracias a la intervención de su abuelo, Ignacio Gallego, dirigente del Partido Comunista Español en el exilio. Nacieron mellizos, pero el primer bebé falleció a los pocos días. El segundo, Rubén, afectado de parálisis cerebral, vivió con su madre un año y medio, encerrado en un hospital. Luego se lo quitaron y le dijeron que había muerto. Lo que sigue es una retahíla de siniestros orfanatos soviéticos por los que Gallego tendrá que desfilar a lo largo y ancho de toda la geografía de la URSS, hasta terminar en un asilo de ancianos donde se abandona a los minusválidos a los que se consideraba incapaces de desarrollar un oficio. Pero las peripecias de Gallego no habían hecho más que empezar; aprovechando el desorden general provocado por la perestroika, Gallego se escapa y emprende la búsqueda de sus orígenes hasta encontrar a su madre en Praga. Entonces comienza a escribir. Su literatura tiene tintes biográficos pero no se trata de la historia de su vida, por novelesca que esta sea. La literatura de Gallego versa sobre la experiencia de la victoria, la victoria profunda de la inteligencia sobre el horror, del triunfo de lo humano desde lo más oscuro; sobre la capacidad de hacer girar las tinieblas: "El negro es el color del a lucha y la esperanza. El color del cielo nocturno, el fondo preciso y seguro de los sueños. El color de las quimeras y los cuentos, el color del mundo interior de los ojos cerrados. El color de la libertad, el color que yo elegí para mi silla de ruedas eléctrica", escribe Gallego
