- La Casa Verde es una compleja novela, trenza de historias distintas que se desarrollan a lo largo de años en dos escenarios simultáneos: la ciudad de Piura y concretamente uno de sus barrios, la Mangachería, suburbio al borde del desierto sobre el que implacablemente llueve arena todas las noches y que poco a poco se ha ido integrando en la ciudad en crecimiento, y una zona de la Amazonia poblada de gentes primitivas, aventureros y caucheros. Las distintas historias: la de Fushía, bucanero fugitivo, señor de indígenas, domeñador de un mundo salvaje, que nos es contada a lo largo de su viaje con el viejo Aquilino, la de los Inconquistables, personajes epónimos de la picaresca piurana, y Don Anselmo, mítico fundador de los placeres de la ciudad o triste y pintoresco tañedor de arpa en los prostíbulos como un personaje de Kavafis, la de la Selvática y el sargento Lituma y la de las gentes de Santa María de Nieva, en el alto Marañón, son cruzadas perpendicularmente por las de otros personajes que intervienen en unas y otras, la de Jum el aguaruna inútilmente rebelde, la del práctico Nieves, la de las Madres de la Misión de Santa María... El relato se mueve en tiempos distintos y en planos de distinta realidad, desde el inmediato acontecer hasta el remoto recuerdo y quién sabe si la pura imaginación, la fabulación de los personajes. Pero una diversidad de técnicas y una agilidad de procedimientos consiguen una alucinante totalización, una cohesión sin resquicios de lo contado. Mario Vargas Llosa nació en Perú en 1936.Se licenció en Letras en la universidad de San Marcos de Lima y se doctoró por la de Madrid. Residió durante algunos años en París y posteriormente en Londres y Barcelona. Su carrera cobró notoriedad con la publicación de La ciudad y los perros, que obtuvo el Premio Biblioteca Breve en 1963 y el Premio de la Crítica en 1963, y que ha sido traducida a más de treinta lenguas. Publicó, entre otras obras, La casa verde (1966, Premio de la Crítica y Premio Internacional Rómulo Gallegos), Conversación en la Catedral, Pantaleón y las visitadoras, Elogio de la madrastra, Lituma en los Andes (Premio Planeta 1993), El pez en el agua y Los cuadernos de Don Rigoberto, La Fiesta del Chivo (Alfaguara, 2000) y La verdad de las mentiras. En el 2002 recibió el premio PEN/Nabokov.
