- From the book: I was fourteen, walking on a beach in Ischia, a Mediterranean island forty miles off the coast of Naples, when I found out about my father. A white cotton towel hung around my neck, the morning sun warmed my back and soft waves rolled against a pea-green fishing boat. A cluster of children were building sand castles by the shore while three German tourists nodded in approval.
