- Synopsis
- Carrick is an upstanding cop who wouldn't drink and drive, but he awakens with a head injury he is accused of acquiring while driving drunk after a Scottish Burns Night Celebration. The next day, a womanizing journalist known for exposing police corruption and with many enemies is found dead. As he recuperates, the handsome Carrick with help from his girlfriend, private investigator, Joanna, and a mysterious ally tries to regain his memory of the accident, attempts to discover why he was set up to end his career in disgrace, and investigates the murder of the journalist despite the fact his fellow policemen seem to be trying to thwart him and he is repeatedly attacked and even left to die. The suspects and motives are plentiful, the plot intricate, the protagonists likable and the inclusion of many instances of Carrick's pride in his Scottish heritage make this a pleasant, but suspenseful novel. Dust Jacket information is included.
