- Synopsis
- During the mid 1970s, James Motlow lived in the Sacramento Delta village of Locke, where he found himself one of the only Caucasians in the community. The village had been founded in 1915 by Chinese Americans who sought a haven from discrimination and harassment in nearby communities. By the 1970s only the older generation remained to tell the story of Locke's founding and boom years. This book is based on oral histories of men and women who lived in Locke and recall the days of gambling, prostitution, missionaries, and Chinese festivals.
