- Synopsis
- The Lavalite World is a 280 page science fiction novel written by Philip Jose Farmer and first published in 1977. It is the fifth book in the early vintage series by Farmer entitled World of Tiers. The novels in this series in order are The maker of Universes, The Gates of Creation, A Private Cosmos, Behind the Walls of Terra, The Lavalite World, and More Than Fire. Red Orc's Rage is a novel written just before More Than Fire that is associated with The World of Tiers. Ace Books characterizes The Lavalite World as follows: The lavalite world is a world of slow but constant change. Here mountains rise from plains, or sink into rifts; new oceans form as vast hollows collapse and seas rush In. There is only one escape from this world where the very landscape moves. The one gateway to other universes Is in the palace of the Lord Urthona. Paul Janus Finnegan also known as Kickaha-must reach it if he is to survive. And he must do so despite the Lords Urthona and Red Orc, the hired thug McKay, flesh-eating vegetation on the run, beasts of prey, and planetary pseudopods. THE LAVALITE WORLD: perhaps Philip Jose Farmer's finest achievement.
