This is the story of a girl and her father. They are described in detail by the author, a trained psychologist. These characters do exist in real life. How they are the way they are becomes ever more apparent as the book progresses. Details are the key. Little things make everybody in this book all too believable and possible. No heavy-handed writing here. The author is subtle with words. She understands her characters with all their flaws and eccentricities. Her audience might be teens. Beyond The Waves may be even more powerful for adults who have some life experience behind them. You will think about these people long after you put down Beyond The Waves.
