They explain how people lived and worked, and what they thought. Primary sources include words written by people in the past. They can include published documents such as newspapers and government papers. The Bill of Rights is one of the most important primary sources in the United States. Its authors put forward some of the core values of the new country. The Bill of Rights helped define the basic rights of U.S. citizens. People still refer back to it today to help define the rights of all Americans.
