- Synopsis
- Baxter is a curious pig. So when he learns about something called Shabbat dinner, he can't wait to find out what all the fuss is about. But when he tries to wrangle an invitation he's told in no uncertain terms that he can't be part of Shabbat dinner--after all, he's not kosher.* So begins Baxter's quest to become kosher, and a series of misunderstandings involving endless jars of pickles and loaves and loaves of challah. Will Baxter ever have a place at the Shabbat table? Not to worry. While learning about the meaning of Shabbat (and what is or isn't kosher--oy!), Baxter comes to know the warmth and welcome that is an essential part of the Friday night table. *kosher: food that meets traditional biblical standards for Jewish munching. Pigs are not kosher.
