- Synopsis
- Rumor had it that somewhere out there a starship lay abandoned along the airless subspace trail that was the only means of travel between planets for the primitive trailside peoples. And Eiverdein needed a ship if ever he was to return to known space and the culture of Earth Humans. But many problems blocked his path--murderers, strange physics, an alien whose speech could kill, and a girl who, at best, was never all there. How does one put together an expedition of scientists, adventurers, profiteers and renegades, using dimension-crossing waybeasts for locomotion, and technology no higher than feeble forms of that new idea electricity, at the end of one of the longest subspace trails, the shadow of a ship?
