- Synopsis
- The Finding of the Blue Feather is divided into three books. In Book One, Once Upon a Time in Reality, Molly Ryan, a young American woman, is on a journey to find herself—or, perhaps, lose herself. On a whim she settles in Weletta, a small town nestled in the mountains of northern Pennsylvania. During a walk through those mountains she finds a small blue feather and the portal to another world, a world called the dream world, simply because it has no other name. This world is quite different from the Reality in which Molly has grown up. What she has been brought up to call the paranormal is normal in the dream world. Molly discovers something else in the dream world—a young man who calls himself Alan. Soon Molly has a decision to make: to stay in Reality, with the possibility of realizing her life’s dream or to make a transition into the unknown—into the Dream World, a world from which she will probably never return. After much deliberation and self-examination, she chooses the dream world in which to spend her life.In Book Two, Back to Reality, after many years, Molly, answering a need she does not fully understand, does return to Reality. She discovers the reason for her return when she saves the life of a friend, Ginny, and takes her to the dream world. Ginny falls in love with the dream world and with David, one of its residents. Ginny fits well into the dream world and her future seems to be secure, but she is troubled by an urge to return to Reality, an urge she cannot ignore. David does not fully understand Ginny’s feelings but neither can he part with her. With no more than the clothes they are wearing, the two make the transition to Reality, a Reality that has changed and will change even more. Both of them must trust to the will of the universe and David’s ability to adapt to what, to him, is a peculiar, foreign world. In Book Three, Beyond Reality, Little Jake, Molly’s son, is little no longer. Now a grown man, trained for many years in mystic ways by the Wanderers, an ascetic band of nomads of the dream world, he is ready to fulfill the role for which he has been prepared. He will go to Reality to be the cornerstone of a movement composed of residents of Reality and migrants from the dream world. All have been chosen to bring new knowledge and understanding to Reality, to form a new society founded on peace. It is a mission containing many difficulties and many perils. Molly accepts his leaving with sadness and reluctance, knowing she will never see her son again. Without any plan other than to follow the will of the universe, Jake goes to Reality to fulfill his mission.
