Synopsis: From the book's back cover: Mae is the only connection her neighbors have to the culture of a wider world beyond the fields and simple houses of their village. This book uses unusual names and ways of addressing people to indicate the foreign-ness of the culture. It also has missing words due either to poor copy-editing, or maybe to make the grammar look foreign.
