Igual que Petrarca, para Montalbano Laura es el «dulce error», el deseo nunca consumado, aunque sí correspondido, que lo situará frente a frente con su conciencia. La proverbial lucidez de Salvo no le bastará esta vez para librarse de algunos de los fantasmas que lo atenazan, por lo que deberá acudir en busca de consuelo a la trattoria de Enzo, quizá con más frecuencia de la habitual.
