- Synopsis
- This volume uses Supreme Court cases involving young people to teach them about the US Constitution. In each chapter, Raskin (constitutional law and the First Amendment, American U. Washington), a Maryland state senator, considers a different amendment and set of rights, describing cases about sex and censorship, school vouchers, religion in schools, discrimination, drug use, and freedom of speech and thought, for example. More information on Equal Protection and discrimination is included, and this edition has been redesigned to include new features and exercises. Recent rulings on student speech, desegregation, affirmative action, and Title IX are included, as well as new justice biographies and the opinions of dissenting justices. The book came out of the Marshall Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project, which takes law students into US public high schools to teach the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
