- Synopsis
- When 452 standard humans and 40,000 programmed clones were sent to colonize a new world, their government lied them about their mission. The colonists are to be deliberately abandoned, as an experiment in human survival. When promised supply ships never arrive, the colonists rapidly lose their technology and are forced to struggle against Gehenna's predominant life-form, the calibans. Dragon-like mound-builders, the calibans are an enigma that prove as intelligent as humans--but in an unusual way. And calibans aren't happy that human squatters have come to change their world... Forty Thousand in Gehenna is set in the universe of Downbelow Station and Cyteen.
