- Synopsis
- A nasty shape shifter is impersonating Jared and will get him in the worst trouble of his life for threatening a little boy with a knife at school and Mom is even more upset because Simon is trying to protect his twin and Mallory is missing after her first fencing match with a coach who won't look at her. The magic folk will do anything to get the Field Guide back from the Grace children including kidnapping Mallory. Simon and Jared set out with a daring plan to bargain for her return. First they must survive a dangerous climb down the steep sides of a rock quarry at night. It's going to take fast thinking and courage from the twins to find an entry in to the realm of the dwarves, to rescue Mallory who looks frozen in death and to escape from the underground tunnels and caves. The Dwarf King plans to join his army with an army of goblins to help an ogre take over the world, an Ogre who wants Mallory to become his queen. Even if the children escape with the help of a creature who can hear the rocks talking, they will witness more violence than they can bear. If they survive the clash of two evil armies, in this exciting fourth book of The Spiderwick Chronicles, they will still be in more danger than they can face by themselves. Book 5 in this series holds the answer to whether Jared will be forced to leave his brother and sister to live with his father because of his behavior problems at school. Read on to see if the Grace Children can convince Mom to help them. Can they overcome a murderous army of evil beings, and keep the magical friends they've made? Will they be able to live safely, peacefully and happily in Aunt Lucinda's house?
