This is is one of the most informative and well-written books I have ever read about cats. The author addresses the basics of feeding, litter box maintenance, and veterinary care, as well as equally important but lesser-known issues like choosing a vet, proper toys for and how to play with your cat, introducing a cat to new family members (human or animal), and even the potentially life-threatening complications that can arise from the vaccines which we are required to give our cats. Every imaginable topic concerning cat care and behavior is covered, and the author even provides a handy resource guide at the back of the book, so you can easily locate the specific products which are recommended. I especially appreciate that the "why" of cat care receives as much attention as the "how." I've cared for cats for fifteen years, and this book enlightened me to mistakes I had made which resulted in feline behavior problems because I had looked at cat care from a human perspective rather than the cat's viewpoint. I enjoy the author's writing style; it is factual, and compassionate. She strikes the perfect balance between informative and interesting, and the book easily avoids the two main pitfalls of animal care books. It's not "dry", and it's not so cute and trivia-filled that it never gets down to the important issues facing cat owners. If you love cats, this book is a must-read.
