- Synopsis
- In a peaceful kingdom in the Burren on the West coast of Ireland, on the night that May Day is celebrated with singing and dancing at a bonfire on the mountain, a young law graduate fails to return in the morning with the other celebrants. The body lies exposed to the elements, ravens and wolves. Though they saw it on their way to their homes, no one speaks of it to Mara, a judge appointed by King Turlough Don O'Brien. Her people are unwilling to tell what they know because so many of them feared and loathed the greedy young man. Suspects range from Mara's youngest student to the elderly priest. With persistence and wisdom, Mara seeks justice according to the Brehon laws she was entrusted to uphold.
