Intelligent Healthcare: Applications of AI in eHealth (EAI/Springer Innovations in Communication and Computing)

by Abhishek Kumar Ashutosh Kumar Dubey Surbhi Bhatia Poonam Chaudhary Rita Chhikara

This book fosters a scientific debate for sophisticated approaches and cognitive technologies (such as deep learning, machine learning and advanced analytics) for enhanced healthcare services in light of the tremendous scope in the future of intelligent systems for healthcare. The authors discuss the proliferation of huge data sources (e.g. genomes, electronic health records (EHRs), mobile diagnostics, and wearable devices) and breakthroughs in artificial intelligence applications, which have unlocked the doors for diagnosing and treating multitudes of rare diseases. The contributors show how the widespread adoption of intelligent health based systems could help overcome challenges, such as shortages of staff and supplies, accessibility barriers, lack of awareness on certain health issues, identification of patient needs, and early detection and diagnosis of illnesses. This book is a small yet significant step towards exploring recent advances, disseminating state-of-the-art techniques and deploying novel technologies in intelligent healthcare services and applications.Describes the advances of computing methodologies for life and medical science data;Presents applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare along with case studies and datasets;Provides an ideal reference for medical imaging researchers, industry scientists and engineers, advanced undergraduate and graduate students, and clinicians.

Recent Trends In Peripheral Security Systems (Services and Business Process Reengineering)

by Dipankar Deb Abhishek Rawat Jatin Upadhyay

This book covers selected topics and methods for peripheral security, which are gaining attention nowadays. The book discusses the security arrangement and methods for monitoring the inside/outside entry of peripheral areas that need to be secured. It relates to a periphery, often portable device (as well as the methods employed, and systems including such a peripheral device and a host central command device with which the local geographical command device communicates), enabling one or more security operations performed by the peripheral device. It also covers the security scenario of snow-prone areas in a remote location. It also elaborates how we can secure the person and devices in extremely cold conditions and rescue them. This book helps the researchers, academicians, and industry persons working in security areas to protect unauthentic entry in large scale areas that may be defense camps or civilian applications like large-sized bungalows, institutes, and organizations of national importance. The experimental results are in close conformance to the proposed methodologies.

Steganography Techniques for Digital Images

by Abid Yahya

This book covers newly developed and novel Steganography techniques and algorithms. The book outlines techniques to provide security to a variety of applications using Steganography, with the goal of both hindering an adversary from decoding a hidden message, and also preventing an adversary from suspecting the existence of covert communications. The book looks into applying these newly designed and improved algorithms to provide a new and efficient Steganographic system, called Characteristic Region-Based Image Steganography (CR-BIS). The algorithms combine both the robustness of the Speeded-Up Robust Features technique (SURF) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) to achieve characteristic region Steganography synchronization. The book also touches on how to avoid hiding data in the whole image by dynamically selecting characteristic regions for the process of embedding. Applies and discusses innovative techniques for hiding text in a digital image file or even using it as a key to the encryption;Provides a variety of methods to achieve characteristic region Steganography synchronization;Shows how Steganography improves upon cryptography by using obscurity features.

Rogue Archives: Digital Cultural Memory and Media Fandom

by Abigail De Kosnik

The task of archiving was once entrusted only to museums, libraries, and other institutions that acted as repositories of culture in material form. But with the rise of digital networked media, a multitude of self-designated archivists -- fans, pirates, hackers -- have become practitioners of cultural preservation on the Internet. These nonprofessional archivists have democratized cultural memory, building freely accessible online archives of whatever content they consider suitable for digital preservation. In Rogue Archives, Abigail De Kosnik examines the practice of archiving in the transition from print to digital media, looking in particular at Internet fan fiction archives.De Kosnik explains that media users today regard all of mass culture as an archive, from which they can redeploy content for their own creations. Hence, "remix culture" and fan fiction are core genres of digital cultural production. De Kosnik explores, among other things, the anticanonical archiving styles of Internet preservationists; the volunteer labor of online archiving; how fan archives serve women and queer users as cultural resources; archivists' efforts to attract racially and sexually diverse content; and how digital archives adhere to the logics of performance more than the logics of print. She also considers the similarities and differences among free culture, free software, and fan communities, and uses digital humanities tools to quantify and visualize the size, user base, and rate of growth of several online fan archives.

Manufacturing Militarism: U.S. Government Propaganda in the War on Terror

by Christopher J. Coyne Abigail R. Hall

The U.S. government's prime enemy in the War on Terror is not a shadowy mastermind dispatching suicide bombers. It is the informed American citizen. With Manufacturing Militarism, Christopher J. Coyne and Abigail R. Hall detail how military propaganda has targeted Americans since 9/11. From the darkened cinema to the football field to the airport screening line, the U.S. government has purposefully inflated the actual threat of terrorism and the necessity of a proactive military response. This biased, incomplete, and misleading information contributes to a broader culture of fear and militarism that, far from keeping Americans safe, ultimately threatens the foundations of a free society. Applying a political economic approach to the incentives created by a democratic system with a massive national security state, Coyne and Hall delve into case studies from the War on Terror to show how propaganda operates in a democracy. As they vigilantly watch their carry-ons scanned at the airport despite nonexistent threats, or absorb glowing representations of the military from films, Americans are subject to propaganda that, Coyne and Hall argue, erodes government by citizen consent.
