Der Band beschäftigt sich mit der Erforschung sozio-interaktiver Potentiale der Videotelefonie im Kontext von Nähe und Verbundenheit mit Fokus auf dem Eigenbild sowie dem Rederechtswechsel. Die Videotelefonie als Kommunikationsform hat sich – und darauf deuten die Erfahrungen der Covid-19-Pandemie hin – im lebensweltlichen Alltag der Menschen etabliert und wird dort in naher Zukunft nicht mehr wegzudenken sein. Auf Basis ihrer Möglichkeiten und Errungenschaften ist es inzwischen Realität und Lebenswirklichkeit, dass die Kommunikation sowohl im privaten als auch im geschäftlichen Kontext mittels verschiedenster Kanäle stattfindet. Der Videotelefonie kommt hierbei als solche nicht nur eine tragende Funktion, sondern auch eine herausragende Rolle bei der vermeintlichen Reproduktion der Face-to-Face-Kommunikation im digitalen Raum zu und wird wie selbstverständlich zum zwischenmenschlichen Austausch genutzt. Just an diesem Punkt knüpft die Forschungsarbeit an. Zentral stand dabei das Vorhaben einer dezidierte Untersuchung des Forschungsgegenstandes Videotelefonie, sowohl aus Kultur- als auch Technikhistorischer, aber auch Medien-, Wahrnehmungs- wie Kommunikations- theoretischer Perspektive, indem analytische und phänosemiotische Perspektiven miteinander in Beziehung gesetzt werden (z.B. Wahrnehmungsbedingungen, Interaktionsmerkmale, realisierte Kommunikationsprozesse etc.). Die Arbeit ist damit vor allem im Bereich des Produkt- und Interactiondesigns zu verorten, adressiert jedoch auch Motive der Medien- und Wahrnehmungstheorie. Darüber hinaus hat sie das Ziel der Darlegung und Begründung der Videotelefonie als eigenständige Kommunikationsform, welche durch eigene, kommunikative Besonderheiten, die sich in ihrer jeweiligen Ingebrauchnahme sowie durch spezielle Wahrnehmungsbedingungen äußern, und die die Videotelefonie als »Rederechtswechselmedium« avant la lettre konsolidieren, gekennzeichnet ist. Dabei soll der Beweis erbracht werden, dass die Videotelefonie nicht als Schwundstufe einer Kommunikation Face-to-Face, sondern als ein eigenständiges Mediatisierungs- und Kommunikationsereignis zu verstehen sei. Und eben nicht als eine beliebige – sich linear vom Telefon ausgehende – entwickelte Form der audio-visuellen Fernkommunikation darstellt, sondern die gestalterische (Bewegtbild-)Technizität ein eigenständiges Funktionsmaß offeriert, welches wiederum ein innovatives Kommunikationsmilieu im Kontext einer Rederechtswechsel-Medialität stabilisiert.

Yet even in the city of his dreams his life is far from peaceful- Shintaro has to struggle to keep himself at University, to pursue his career as a writer and journalist and in order to marry the girl he loves.The original Japanese title of Footprints in the Snow is Omoide no Ki. Kenjiro Tokutomi ‘s novel is still read in Japan today and more than any other novel conveys what it felt like to be young in the days of Japan’s great transformation from feudal to modern state. Romantik und Realismus werden in der Literaturgeschichtsschreibung vorwiegend als Gegensätze beschrieben. Ihre Rekonstruktion als dichotome Epochen verstellt aber den Blick auf die Kontinuitäten zwischen den beiden großen Literaturbewegungen des 19. Jahrhunderts, auf ihre gemeinsamen Problemfelder und Strategien zur Problembewältigung. Denn weshalb beziehen sich Texte in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts permanent auf eine Literatur, die sie als ›Romantik‹ kennzeichnen und aus der Welt schaffen wollen? Weshalb bearbeiten Texte, die als ›realistische‹ positioniert werden, über einen Zeitraum von immerhin gut 50 Jahren Konzepte und Themenkomplexe, die erkennbar ihren Anfang in der von ihnen abgelehnten und als obsolet konzipierten Romantik nehmen? Weshalb lassen sie fortwährend romantische Figuren auftreten oder romantische Motive handlungsleitend ein? Ganz offenbar handelt es sich beim Romantischen, das der Realismus bestreitet, um einen unerledigten Problemkomplex. Ausgehend vondiesen Beobachtungen stellt sich das Verhältnis von romantischer und realistischer Literatur weniger als epochale Dichotomie, sondern vielmehr als konstitutives Wechselverhältnis dar – als komplementäre Konstellation vor einem gemeinsamen Problemhorizont. Romantische und realistische Literatur lassen sich als alternative und gleichwohl parallele Strategien im Umgang mit historischen Transformationsprozessen auffassen, die ungeachtet ihrer markierten Konkurrenz kaum jemals ungemischt zur Anwendung kommen. Romantische und realistische Tendenzen treten in wechselseitiger Abhängigkeit auf. Dabei geht es sowohl den programmatisch romantisierenden als auch den programmatisch realistischen Texten um nicht weniger als die Gestaltung gesellschaftlicher Realität. Auf der Grundlage einer anderen Begründungsgeschichte der deutschsprachigen Literatur im 19. Jahrhundert lassen sich Beschreibungsmodelle für kulturelle Identifikations- und Transformationsprozesse gewinnen. Programming for Corpus Linguistics with Python and Dataframes (Elements in Corpus Linguistics)

This Element offers intermediate or experienced programmers algorithms for Corpus Linguistic (CL) programming in the Python language using dataframes that provide a fast, efficient, intuitive set of methods for working with large, complex datasets such as corpora. This Element demonstrates principles of dataframe programming applied to CL analyses, as well as complete algorithms for creating concordances; producing lists of collocates, keywords, and lexical bundles; and performing key feature analysis. An additional algorithm for creating dataframe corpora is presented including methods for tokenizing, part-of-speech tagging, and lemmatizing using spaCy. This Element provides a set of core skills that can be applied to a range of CL research questions, as well as to original analyses not possible with existing corpus software.

Indigenous Knowledge and Material Histories: The Example of Rubber (Elements in Environmental Humanities)

This Element deals with stories told about substances and ways to analyse them through an Environmental Humanitie's perspective. It then takes up rubber as an example and its many stories. It is shown that the common notions of rubber history, which assume that rubber only became a useful material through a miraculous operation called vulcanization, that is attributed to the US-American Charles Goodyear, are false. In contrast, it is shown that rubber and many important rubber products are inventions of Indigenous peoples of South America, made durable by a process that can be called organic vulcanization. It is with that invention, that the story of rubber starts. Without it, rubber would not exist, neither in the Americas nor elsewhere. Finally, it is shown that Indigenous rubber products also offer some ecological advantages over industrially manufactured ones.
