The Digital Innovation Race: Conceptualizing the Emerging New World Order

by Cecilia Rikap Bengt-Åke Lundvall

This book develops new theoretical perspectives on the economics and politics of innovation and knowledge in order to capture new trends in modern capitalism. It shows how giant corporations establish themselves as intellectual monopolies and how each of them builds and controls its own corporate innovation system. It presents an analysis of a new form of production where Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft, and their counterparts in China, extract value and appropriate intellectual rents through privileged access to AI algorithms trained by data from organizations and individuals all around the world. These companies’ specific form of production and rent-seeking takes place at the global level and challenges national governments trying to regulate intellectual monopolies and attempting to build stronger national innovation systems. It is within this context that the authors provide new insights on the complex interplay between corporate and national innovation systems by looking at the US-China conflict, understood as a struggle for global technological supremacy. The book ends with alternative scenarios of global governance and advances policy recommendations as well as calls for social activism. This book will be of interest to students, academics and practitioners (both from national states and international organizations) and professionals working on innovation, digital capitalism and related topics.

Digital Interaction Hubs für B2B-Kundeninteraktionen: Innovativer Zugang für digitalen Vertrieb und Marketing

by Anna Selent

Digitale Kundeninteraktionen gewinnen an hoher Bedeutung. Digital Interactions in Developing Countries: An Economic Perspective (Routledge Studies in Development Economics #99)

by Jeffrey James

Jeffrey James is one of the relatively few academics to have systematically taken on the topic of IT and development. In this timely book he undertakes a methodological critique of prominent topics in the debate. Challenging the existing literature by international and governmental institutions, the book looks not only at the digital divide but also at issues such as digital preparedness, leapfrogging and low-cost computers. James also raises important issues which have been largely neglected in the literature, such as the implications for poverty in developing countries and the macroeconomics of mobile phones. The book argues that benefits from IT are captured in a different form in developing as opposed to developed countries. In the latter, gains come from technology ownership and use, whereas in the former, benefits cannot be captured as much in this way because ownership is more limited. Interestingly, the author shows that developing countries have responded to this distinction with a series of local innovations which are often low-cost and pro-poor. This finding contradicts the widely held view that poor countries are unable to generate major innovations within their own borders. Accessible and clearly written, this book will be of great interest to scholars of development economics and development studies, and is relevant to both policy-makers and academics.

Digital Labour Markets in Central and Eastern European Countries: COVID-19 and the Future of Work (Routledge Studies in Labour Economics)

by Beata Woźniak-Jęchorek Kamilla Marchewka-Bartkowiak

This book examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on changing labour markets and accelerating digitalisation of the workplace in Central and Eastern Europe. It provides an innovative and enriching take on the work experience from the pandemic times and discusses the challenges of ongoing changes in labour markets and workplaces in a way that is not covered by the extant literature. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and digitalisation on labour market outcomes is analysed throughout 12 chapters, by 34 labour market experts from various CEE countries. Most chapters are based on empirical methods yet are presented in an easy-to-follow way to make the book also accessible for a non-scientific audience. The volume addresses the three key goals: to better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the adoption of workplace digitalisation in the selected labour markets in CEE countries and the potential trade-offs facing those who do and do not have access to this benefit to complement the labour market research by incorporating the outputs of changing demand for skills to contribute new insight into policies and regulations that govern the future of work The book argues that the recent COVID-19 pandemic was a sombre reminder of the relevance and necessity of digital technology for a variety of sectors and market activities. It concludes that to downside the risks of vanishing jobs, as well as to minimise the threats and maximise the opportunities of digitalisation in CEE countries, labour market partners need to consider an effective governance tool in terms of inclusive access to the digital environment, re-skilling, and balanced regulations of the more problematic facets of digital work. The book will be of interest to postgraduate researchers and academics in the fields of labour economics, regional economics, and macroeconomics. Additionally, due to the broader policy implications of the topic, the book will appeal to policymakers and experts interested in labour economics. Digital Leadership: Evidence from Theory and Practice (Routledge Studies in Leadership Research)

by Ahmad M. Salih

In the evolving landscape of leadership, factors from both environmental and cultural dimensions play a crucial role. In the contemporary era of digitalisation and globalisation, the impact on leadership has expanded significantly. This places greater pressure on leaders to succeed. The integration of technology and knowledge management adds complexity, demanding not only effectiveness but also cultural adaptability for navigating digital organisational changes. Effective leadership prerequisites endure, regardless of technological influence. Amid the push for digital leadership in modern organisations, it's essential to acknowledge the complexity of defining and analysing leadership. This treatise emphasises adaptability and intelligence as foundational for digital leaders and followers. Organisational ambidexterity underscores the simultaneous need for digital alignment and adaptability in effective leadership. This book emphasises followership's natural evolution in individual growth. It delves into the intricate interplay between leadership and followership within the globalised, digital context. Core to the narrative is the 'intelligently learning organization,' a concept explored throughout and conclusively in Chapter 7. While technological prowess benefits leaders, it's vital to recognise its limitations in achieving organisational growth. The text highlights 'digital dexterity,' a concept evaluating internal capacities for embracing digital trajectories. This nascent concept is vital for modern digital leaders to embody.

Digital Leadership, Agile Change and the Emotional Organization: Emotion as a Success Factor for Digital Transformation Projects (Future of Business and Finance)

by Martin Kupiek

This book shows an innovative way for managers to gain a better understanding of emotions in teams and organizational units and thus positively influence agile development in the context of digital transformation of companies. Digitalization does not just lead to technical changes. It dramatically changes the way employees work with each other as well as how executives play their roles. In an agile working environment, middle management in particular loses power, influence, and relevance, and customer relationships are subject to greater affectivity. The result is an increased emotionalization of the actors, which should be recognized and understood prior to designing the emotional landscape of the organization and to developing and implementing successful business models. The author introduces various conventional and AI-based instruments based on current research for handling emotions, supported by practical concepts.

by Martin Kupiek

by Marco A. Gardini Guido Sommer
