In just the first 14 days Bob McMicken, 51, lost 16.3 pounds. Kyle Cambridge, 28, lost 15 pounds. Martha Chesler, 54, lost 11 pounds. Matt Brunner, 43, lost 14 pounds. Focusing your weight-loss efforts on drinks will help you quickly strip away flab in a number of ways. Here's what makes Zero Belly Smoothies so effective: 1. They take the stress out of cooking and eating well. Studies have shown that the more diverse your diet, the more likely you are to experience weight gain. In fact, those who ate the widest range of foods showed a 120 percent greater increase in waist circumference compared with those who had the least diversity. In other words, people who have the best success at weight loss pick a set number of foods and tend to stick to them. Zero Belly Smoothies allow you to do exactly that. 2. They crowd out the junk in your diet. Zero Belly Smoothies come in all different flavors--chocolatey, fruity, green, and even savory--but they all have one thing in common: no added sugars. In a 2015 study in Sweden, researchers followed 42,400 men over the course of 12 years. They found that men who consumed at least two servings per day of sweetened beverages had a 23 percent higher risk of heart failure compared with those who did not. 3. They battle food allergies and reduce inflammation. What's also unique about Zero Belly Smoothies is that they are vegan: no milk, no yogurt, no whey protein. Plant-based protein powders are a low-sugar, high-fiber alternative to popular dairy-based supplements. A study by the University of Tampa that compared plant protein with whey found it to be equally as effective at changing body composition and boosting muscle recovery and growth! 4. They make you feel fuller longer! Studies show that high-protein smoothies are highly effective at rushing nutrients to your muscles and that blended fruit drinks, which include all the fiber, will actually keep you fuller longer than fruit juices. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Zero Sugar explains why processed sugar, especially fructose, is so addictive and so bad for us, and explains how to recognise and avoid hidden sugar in foods. While dietary recommendations for consumption of added sugar are a maximum of 6 teaspoons a day for women and 9 teaspoons a day for men, the average person actually consumes approximately 40 teaspoons per day! The Zero-Waste Chef: Plant-Forward Recipes and Tips for a Sustainable Kitchen and Planet

by Anne-Marie Bonneau

A sustainable lifestyle starts in the kitchen with these use-what-you-have, spend-less-money recipes and tips, from the friendly voice behind @ZeroWasteChef.In her decade of living with as little plastic, food waste, and stuff as possible, Anne-Marie Bonneau, who blogs under the moniker Zero-Waste Chef, has learned that "zero-waste" is above all an intention, not a hard-and-fast rule. Because, while one person eliminating all their waste is great, if thousands of people do 20 percent better it will have a much bigger impact on the planet. The good news is you likely already have all the tools you need to begin to create your own change at home, especially in the kitchen. In her debut book, Bonneau gives readers the facts to motivate them to do better, the simple (and usually free) fixes to ease them into wasting less--you can, for example, banish plastic wrap by simply inverting a plate over your leftovers--and, finally, the recipes and strategies to turn them into more sustainable, money-saving cooks.Rescue a loaf from the landfill by making Mexican Hot Chocolate Bread Pudding, or revive some sad greens to make a pesto. Save five bucks (and the plastic tub) at the supermarket with Yes Whey, You Can Make Ricotta Cheese, then use the cheese in a galette and the leftover whey to make sourdough tortillas. With 75 vegan and vegetarian recipes for cooking with scraps, creating fermented staples, and using up all your groceries before they become waste--including end-of-recipe tips on what to do with your ingredients next--Bonneau lays out an attainable vision of a zero-waste kitchen.

I enjoyed making cornmeal porridge, and it helped me to begin appreciating the idea of nourishment, the idea that food can make your body feel better. I would make Irish moss and some of my dad's juices...Our Rasta culture was different than regular Jamaican culture. We used to have both sides then, because my auntie would cook the more traditional Jamaican food. On the other side, our Rasta culture drew us to a different way of eating. My father would always have a lot of juices and greens and nuts. We were introduced to ital food--fresh, organic, and nutritious, less salt.”

Zinc Clinical and Biochemical Significance

by Stephen C. Cunnane

In keeping with the etiology theme, it also became apparent that the clinical aspects needed to be strictly separated from the animal aspects of zinc metabolism, a separation that has never previously been attempted. Although this division, like the separation of primary from secondary zinc depletion, may be somewhat arbitrary, it is the author‘s impression that current knowledge of the truly clinical aspects of zinc metabolism is too often confused with its effects in animals. The two will frequently be similar, but not always. In this book, therefore, animal studies are considered in part 2 (Biochemistry. Only a handful of references to animal studies has been included in part 1 (Clinical). The purpose of this separation is to clearly distinguish animal from human, experimental from clinical. Too many of the animal studies have involved severe and prolonged zinc deficiency or other exaggerated nutritional conditions that cannot be realistically applied in the clinical setting. Furthermore, animal studies are mainly or primary (dietary) zinc depletion, whereas in humans, secondary zinc depletion is more prevalent and has a more diverse etiology.

Zinfandel: A History of a Grape and Its Wine

by Charles L. Sullivan

The Zinfandel grape--currently producing big, rich, luscious styles of red wine--has a large, loyal, even fanatical following in California and around the world. The grape, grown predominantly in California, has acquired an almost mythic status--in part because of the caliber of its wines and its remarkable versatility, and in part because of the mystery surrounding its origins. Charles Sullivan, a leading expert on the history of California wine, has at last written the definitive history of Zinfandel. Here he brings together his deep knowledge of wine with the results of his extensive research on the grape in the United States and Europe in a book that will entertain and enlighten wine aficionados and casual enthusiasts. In this lively book, Sullivan dispels the false legend that has obscured Zinfandel's history for almost a century, reveals the latest scientific findings about the grape's European roots, shares his thoughts on the quality of the wines now being produced, and looks to the future of this remarkable grape. Sullivan reconstructs Zinfandel's journey through history--taking us from Austria to the East Coast of the U. S. in the 1820s, to Gold Rush California, and through the early days of the state's wine industry. He considers the ups and downs of the grape's popularity, including its most recent and, according to Sullivan, most brilliant "up. " He also unravels the two great mysteries surrounding Zinfandel: the myth of Agoston Haraszthy's role in importing Zinfandel, and the heated controversy over the relationship between California Zinfandel and Italian Primitivo. Sullivan ends with his assessments of the 2001 and 2002 vintages, firmly setting the history of Zinfandel into the chronicles of grape history.

Zoe's Ghana Kitchen

by Zoe Adjonyoh

'Zoe's Ghana Kitchen introduces you to dishes - sweet with peanuts and hot with chillies - that have big flavours and are satisfyingly no-nonsense. Cooking out of it has left me yearning for pork ribs in sticky plantain sauce and lamb and peanut butter stew as well as simple grilled fish. And I had no idea how easy it was to pair smoked fish with yams, squash and ginger. Chalé, the basic hot tomato sauce (spiked with ginger and a little curry powder), which is used as the base for many of the recipes, is a godsend.' - Diana Henry"I believe we are on the cusp of an African food revolution.
