Journey: A Study of Peter for Stumbling Toward Jesus's Extravagant Grace (Real People Real Faith Bible Study)
by Jodie NiznikDiscover how Peter's broken pursuit of Jesus can offer us hope and couragePeter was an ordinary man of his time. He started as a humble, hardworking fisherman. But he ended his life with a lasting legacy that still inspires Christians worldwide today. His path from one to the other wasn't smooth or straight. And there is enormous hope in understanding his rocky, stumbling journey of following Jesus. In this eight-week Bible study, Jodie Niznik delves into the ways Peter's missteps and failures reveal God's grace. When Jesus met Peter in those broken places and called him to get back up, dust himself off, and keep following, we are, in turn, taught how to follow Jesus in our own lives. Along the way, Niznik emphasizes mindfulness practices to readers, inviting them to come to each week's study with a quiet mind and ready heart. There is no wallowing in mistakes here, however. Instead, drawing on all four gospels and other supporting Scriptures, Jodie invites readers to see the grace, mercy, and correction of Jesus in the life of Peter, and then to draw parallels to modern Christian lives. Each chapter begins with a spiritual practice that ties into the week's theme to help women engage their heart in the study.Though Peter lived two thousand years ago, he is proof that if God can use an imperfect life like his, then God can and will use Christians today, despite all those ways they feel themselves failing, coming up short, and falling away.

Journeys Through the Disability and Mental Health Nonprofit Sector: The Theory and Practice of Leadership
by David Rosenbaum Elizabeth More Mark OrrThis book is about leadership in nonprofit disability and mental health service organisations. It is focused on providing both an academic and a practitioner view of what leadership should look like in this sector and what are the various leadership attributes and skills acquisitions that will guide successful leadership in an array of situations and circumstances. It achieves this dual focus through the detailed analysis of leadership issues across a wide range of relevant topics and issues that centre on academic analysis interspersed with appropriate and relevant sector practice-related examples. In this manner, the book will be of interest to both academics in a range of management-related and disability fields, as well as to practitioners seeking guidance and input on issues pertinent to their own organisation, recognising that all organisations, irrespective of sectors, are able to learn from each other. Additionally, higher education students involved in nonprofit leadership subjects and courses seeking further research in this area to support their studies will also find this book a valuable resource for their studies. An analysis of industry practice is presented following detailed interviews with key executive staff from nonprofit disability and mental health service organizations. This analysis of interviews is presented in a manner that supports and reinforces the academic details presented in the preceding chapters. In this way theory and practice become integrated. This linkage will enable theory to be augmented by real world organizational activities and experiences from key organizational players. This book contains a wealth of academic research-based information on a broad range of topics that represent issues and challenges faced by all CEOs within nonprofit disability and mental health service organizations.
Journeys Towards Intercultural Capability in Language Classrooms: Voices from Students, Teachers and Researchers (Intercultural Communication and Language Education)
by Martin East Constanza Tolosa Jocelyn Howard Christine Biebricher Adèle ScottThis open access book presents an account of five teacher educators who, over a two-year period, undertook a research project with five teachers of languages other than English in pre-secondary schools in New Zealand. Their collaborative aim was to develop students’ intercultural capability in the context of learning a new language. The school participants were typical of many in New Zealand’s pre-secondary sector; the teachers had limited language-teaching experience and limited prior knowledge of how to develop the intercultural dimension in their language classrooms, and the students were largely at the beginning stages of learning a new language. The book discusses the findings obtained using a range of data collection methods, including classroom observations, reflective interviews with teachers, and focus groups with students. It documents instances of breakthrough and growth for teachers and students and reveals the problems and tensions. Lastly, it reflects on the lessons learned in the course of this project and speculates on the roles that teacher education needs to play if the goal of intercultural capability is to be better achieved in language classrooms, both in New Zealand and internationally. Of interest to a wide range of stakeholders in the area of education, the book allows readers to gain an understanding of the opportunities of working with teachers through an action–research model, alongside the challenges that this brings and ways in which intercultural capability may be strengthened.

Journeys through Childhood Studies: Constructing Identities through Higher Education and the Children’s Workforce
by Ingrid RichterInvestigating the experiences of a group of female students as they journey into and through higher education, and into work with and for children, Journeys through Childhood Studies offers a critical analysis of the intersectional influences and effects of social division on experiences of higher education and career trajectories. The book explores the influences of gender, race, and class on the experiences of higher education and the development of professional identities, and whether the professionalisation of work in relation to children and childhood opens up opportunities for career development or narrows the range of choices available to women. Adopting a distinctive qualitative approach to track strategies used by women participants to accommodate the changing terrain of their journeys, this book demonstrates how the women’s pathways to university are shaped by factors such as social divisions, friends, family, and school, and their experiences of working with children. Featuring detailed interviews, Journeys through Childhood Studies offers an insightful exploration of the construction and practices of the Children’s Workforce. It is a must-read for academics, postgraduate students, and those researching Childhood Studies, professional identities, and experiences of higher education.

Joy and Tears: The Emotional Life of the Christian
by Gerald W. PetermanThis book presents a biblical and practical look at Christians and their emotions, building off of the concept that most contemporary Christians have misconceptions about why we have emotions and how we should handle them. Trusting God doesn&’t mean being consistently tranquil or subdued. Truth is, such a view makes life flat and two dimensional. We often forget that emotions are a gift; to fear them or stow them away would be to deny a huge part of what makes us human. This book explores the significance of the gift and the benefits of living a robust life of thought, action, and feeling. Illuminating the emotional life of Christ and his followers, As Dr. Gerald Peterman asks: If I&’m forgiven, why do I feel guilt and shame? What about anger? What if I&’m angry with God?What is the place of sadness in the Christian life?Is love only an action? Emotions don&’t just happen to us like the virus or the flu, they are inherently part of us. Readers will find that the discussion extends beyond &“good&” and &“bad&”, as many emotions are neutral and it is up to them to figure out how to glorify God with them. Extended chapters on love and anger are included.
