Im Rahmen eines qualitativen Forschungsdesigns wurden mentalisierungsfokussierte Fallbesprechungen in einer stationären Jugendhilfeeinrichtung durchgeführt und auf Mentalisierungsprozesse sowie deren Bedingungsfaktoren hin untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass gelingende Mentalisierungsprozesse sowohl von den Fachkräften selbst als auch von reflexionsanregenden Interventionen der Forscherin initiiert werden. Scheiternde Mentalisierungsprozesse zeigten sich zumeist bei Konflikten unter den Fachkräften oder beim Thematisieren von Kränkungen und Grenzüberschreitungen durch die betreuten Jugendlichen. Aus den Erkenntnissen werden Implikationen für die Gestaltung mentalisierungsfokussierter Fallbesprechungen in der Heimerziehung in Form von Leitsätzen, einem Leitfaden und einer Fragensammlung abgeleitet.
