Pilates for Weight Loss
by Lynne RobinsonA 2006 study stated that 'Fat loss comes from burning sufficient number of calories. While cardio exercise tends to be an efficient calorie burner, Pilates appears to possess the potential to burn enough calories if done regularly, over the long haul and properly.' (Medicine and Science). Pilates for Weight Loss is a pioneering regime that will put you back in control of your weight. Pilates will change your shape and help you to achieve a long, lean silhouette, while also controlling your weight. This is the first book to create a programme to emphasise these benefits. Pilates on the Ball: The World's Most Popular Workout Using the Exercise Ball
by Colleen CraigA unique and exciting synthesis of two highly acclaimed fitness techniques: Pilates Method and the Swiss exercise ball.• Non-impact Pilates exercises on the ball can be adapted for all levels of ability, from fitness trainers and weekend athletes to those healing from injury or chronic back pain. • Shows how to practice Pilates techniques without expensive equipment.• Profusely illustrated with black-and-white photographs for maximal learning. The Pilates Method of body conditioning is a highly effective workout technique that strengthens the body while engaging the mind. Developed in the early twentieth century by accomplished boxer and gymnast Joseph Pilates, the Pilates Method aligns the body; builds long, lean muscles; and develops core abdominal strength. Many lifestyle and fitness magazines have named Pilates the hottest workout of the decade. In a first-of-its-kind fusion, Pilates on the Ball merges the principles and exercises of the highly effective Pilates Method of body conditioning with the unique functions of the exercise ball, used by Olympic coaches, dancers, and athletes to fine-tune body awareness and enhance physical performance. The ball magnifies the benefits of the carefully developed and refined Pilates Method. Because maintaining balance on the ball recruits the deep, stabilizing muscles of the spine, the postural muscles are strengthened. The ball intensifies athletic performance by increasing resistance and heightening awareness of how the body moves in space. Chapters detail the Pilates principles step by step, with successive movements to challenge all levels of ability and "watch points" for careful evaluation of your form. Intense enough to engage seasoned athletes yet accessible enough to use as an everyday exercise routine or to alleviate chronic pain, Pilates on the Ball builds strong bodies and engaged minds.

La Píldora De La Inmortalidad - Disponible Ahora
by Mariana Barrancos Richard Stooker¿Qué nos hace envejecer?
Pilgrim
by Lee KravitzA former editor in chief of Parade magazine embarks on a spiritual quest that goes to the heart of what really matters in life Lee Kravitz is adrift--shaken deeply after 9/11 and the loss of his job, he begins to feel the pull toward rediscovering his spirituality. He faces resistance from his wife, who doesn't understand why their family life can't provide what he needs, but when he suffers what he thinks is a heart attack and calls out for God, Lee realizes he must take action. His journey takes him to many places--Quaker meetings, Catholic mass, and even sessions with an astrologer--and blends memoir, religion, and science, culminating in a narrative that speaks to the universal need to feel connected to the world around us. In documenting his quest to pursue a contemplative life in the chaos of everyday existence and fit his religion-shaped needs into a secular mold, Lee offers a blueprint for anyone who might find himself lost at one point or another. With forays into meditation, Quakerism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Protestantism, Judaism, and more, Pilgrim is an engrossing, thoughtful, and stirring guide for readers of Kathleen Norris and Anne Lamott.
Pilgrimage through Loss: Twelve Pathways to Strength and Renewal after the Death of a Child
by Linda Lawrence HuntThe death of a child immerses parents into a life-long challenge of living with one of life's most heartbreaking losses. Pilgrimage through Loss tells the story of one family's journey, along with interviews from thirty other mothers and fathers who add their voices to the silences that often surround suffering in our 'mourning-avoidant' culture. Hunt illuminates the varied pathways parents eventually discover that open their lives to strength and healing. Rather than prescribing a path that will lead to recovery, Hunt encourages parents to find the pathways that work for them as they seek to engage life again with meaning and hope. Each chapter includes questions for reflection and discussion, plus recent research on grief and loss. Pilgrimage through Loss not only helps grieving parents, it also provides an insightful resource for those wanting to understand and come alongside a family in grief.

A Pill for Promiscuity: Gay Sex in an Age of Pharmaceuticals (Q+ Public)
by Andrew Holleran Jeffrey Escoffier Kane Race Andrew R. Spieldenner Steve MacIsaac Daniel Felsenthal Nicolas Flores Alex Garner Deion Hawkins Pam Dore Addison Vawters Lore Tta LeMaster Ariel Sabillon Justice Jamal Jones Jeff WeinsteinFor a generation of gay men who came of age in the 1980s and 1990s, becoming sexually active meant confronting the dangers of catching and transmitting HIV. In the 21st century, however, the development of viral suppression treatments and preventative pills such as PrEP and nPEP has massively reduced the risk of acquiring HIV. Yet some of the stigma around gay male promiscuity and bareback sex has remained, inhibiting open dialogues about sexual desire, risk, and pleasure. A Pill for Promiscuity brings together academics, artists, and activists—from different generations, countries, ethnic backgrounds, and HIV statuses—to reflect on how gay sex has changed in a post-PrEP era. Some offer personal perspectives on the value of promiscuity and the sexual communities it fosters, while others critique unequal access to PrEP and the increased role Big Pharma now plays in gay life. With a diverse group of contributors that includes novelist Andrew Holleran, trans scholar Lore/tta LeMaster, cartoonist Steve MacIsaac, and pornographic film director Mister Pam, this book asks provocative questions about how we might reimagine queer sex and sexuality in the 21st century.

A Pílula da Imortalidade - Já Disponível
by Richard Stooker Irina MaiaO que causa o nosso envelhecimento?

Pioneering Health in London, 1935-2000: The Peckham Experiment (Routledge Studies in the History of Science, Technology and Medicine)
by David KuchenbuchThe Peckham Experiment, conducted between 1935 and 1950 in the London Pioneer Health Centre, was one of the most talked-about social experiments of the 20th century. Families from the South London neighbourhood of Peckham were invited to use the facilities of a radiantly modern building. They were encouraged to freely choose and organize their leisure activities, taking advantage of a swimming pool, a gymnasium, and a self-service cafeteria. In doing so, both their health status and interaction with other members of the nascent centre-community were closely observed by a team of physicians. The first research monograph on the history of the experiment building on archival sources, this book combines a micro-historical perspective with methods from the history of science. It shows how bio-medical holism and evolutionary theories typical of the interwar years informed research on social life in the centre. But it also reveals that the "guinea pigs", too, were trying to make sense of the research they were taking part in. The outcome was an ambiguous social laboratory that generated new insights into the power of social groups to self-organize, which were soon discussed all over the world – and continue to haunt British political debates today.
