Space Below My Feet
by Gwen MoffatA classic mountaineering memoir by one of the UK's foremost female climbers.'A story of climbing and compulsive love of mountains ... magnificent' OBSERVERIn 1945, when Gwen Moffat was in her twenties, she deserted from her post as a driver and dispatch rider in the Army and went to live rough in Wales and Cornwall, climbing and living on practically nothing. She hitch-hiked her way around, travelling from Skye to Chamonix and many places in between, with all her possessions on her back, although these amounted to little more than a rope and a sleeping bag. When the money ran out, she worked as a forester, went winkle-picking on the Isle of Skye, acted as the helmsman of a schooner and did a stint as an artist's model. And always there were the mountains, drawing her away from a 'proper' job.Throughout this unique story, there are acutely observed accounts of mountaineering exploits as Moffat tackles the toughest climbs and goes on to become Britain's leading female climber - and the first woman to qualify as a mountain guide.

The Spaces of Mental Capacity Law: Moving Beyond Binaries (Social Justice)
by Beverley CloughThis book explores the conceptual spaces and socio-legal context which mental capacity laws inhabit. It will be seen that these norms are created and reproduced through the binaries that pervade mental capacity laws in liberal legal jurisdictions- such as capacity/incapacity; autonomy/paternalism; empowerment/protection; carer/cared-for; disabled/non-disabled; public/private. Whilst on one level the book demonstrates the pervasive reach of laws questioning individuals mental capacity, within and beyond the medical context which it is most commonly associated with, at a deeper and perhaps more important level it challenges the underlying norms and assumptions underpinning the very idea of mental capacity, and reflects outwards on the transformative potential of these realisations for other areas of law. In doing so, whilst the book offers lessons for mental capacity law scholarship in terms of reform efforts at both domestic and internationals levels, it also offers ways to develop our understandings of a range of linked legal, policy and theoretical concepts. In so doing, it offers new critical vantage points for both legal critique and conceptual change beyond mental capacity law. The book will be of interest to researchers in mental capacity law, disability law and socio-legal studies as well as critical geographers and disability studies scholars.
The Spaceships of the Visitors
by Russ Estes Kevin RandleThe first comprehensive field guide to alien spacecraft, complete with illustrations of more than one hundred spaceships In the last decade, the number of reports of alien spacecraft sightings has skyrocketed. However, the phenomenon of alien encounters is not new. Here, for the first time, two UFO experts, Kevin Randle and Russ Estes, cover the history of UFO sightings, from the ancient to the modern, using research from many different sources, including the Air Force and private UFO groups. Each of the more than one hundred entries is based on actual eyewitness accounts and includes: A detailed drawing of each spaceship based on photographs or drawings made by the people who saw it with their own eyes A concise summary of the facts: where the sighting took place, names of the witnesses, craft type, and such specifics as each craft's dimensions, color, sound, and exhaust mechanism A unique reliability rating, on a scale from 0 to 10 A gripping you-were-there narration of the encounter, along with meticulous documentation of source material Spaceships of the Visitors is a fascinating and essential reference for anyone curious about alien visitation.
Spagyrics: The Alchemical Preparation of Medicinal Essences, Tinctures, and Elixirs
by Manfred M. JuniusA comprehensive alchemical guide to plant extractions and their health benefits • Shows how spagyric methods “open” medicinal plants completely to release powerful healing properties • Provides a history and philosophy of spagyrics that reveal why Western medicine fails to recognize the full benefit to health offered by plants • Connects spagyrics to classical alchemical, hermetic, and ayurvedic traditions The practice of spagyrics is the application of ancient alchemical working methods to the preparation of tinctures, essences, and other products from medicinal plants. While ordinary tinctures and infusions use only a part of the great curative potential of plants, spagyric methods “open” medicinal plants completely to reveal their more powerful healing properties. Drawing on the rich imagery and symbolism of ancient source materials, Manfred M. Junius describes these methods in great detail, showing readers how to prepare plant remedies alchemically for their own use as well as imparting a knowledge of the ideological world in which alchemistic and hermetic thought flowered. Spagyrics includes the Plant Magistery of Paracelsus and the Life Elixir recipe of Andreas Libavius among its historic techniques as well as a wealth of scientific information that demonstrates the greater efficacy of alchemical methods of plant essence extraction. This classic source text preserves the nearly forgotten but highly valuable methods of this true hermetic art for preparing natural remedies.

The Spark Factor: The Secret to Supercharging Energy, Becoming Resilient, and Feeling Better Than Ever
by Dr. Molly MaloofForeword by Dave AspreyA breakthrough program for women to revive their lost energy and vitality, developed by a leading biohacker and physician Inside of you, there is a spark—it’s what animates you, and without it, you could not live. This energy creation isn’t mystical, nor is it spiritual; it is science. We know from research that our cellular machinery transforms the food we eat and the air we breathe into the electricity that fuels us. With the right lifestyle inputs, we glow with energy; but when the demands on our bodies exceed our capacity—as is true for so many of us—we become burned out, mentally and physically. Now, in The Spark Factor, Dr. Molly Maloof shares a program uniquely tailored to the biology of women—a plan that targets the mitochondria, the power source of the cells. As Dr. Maloof shows, the intense, all-or-nothing approaches commonly used by biohackers to optimize health—including sustained fasting, ultra-low-carb diets, and intense training—can be harmful, especially for women, because they create excessive stress in an already-stressed body, which can make us tired, weak, and prone to illness.Dr. Maloof’s innovative program—which has been used successfully by her patients—offers lifestyle changes that target the unique biology of women and provide immediate and long-term benefits. Instead of denying our bodies, we need to listen to what they are telling us. Once we become aware of our physical needs, we can give ourselves the resources to become more connected, nourished, safe, and strong—at both the micro- and the macro-level.With cutting-edge biohacking insights, strategies for personalized nutrition, hormonal health and stress management, The Spark Factor is the book women have been waiting for to help them reclaim their vitality and achieve lasting health.

Sparks of Divinity
by B.K.S. IyengarSparks of Divinity is a collection of the teachings of yoga master B. K. S. Iyengar first published in a French-English bilingual edition in 1976. The material for this book was gathered and compiled by Noëlle Perez-Christiaens from class notes and correspondence during the formative years of Iyengar's international career. The entries cover the period from the late 1950s, when Iyengar was invited by Yehudi Menuin to teach in Gstaad, Switzerland, to the year following the death of Iyengar's wife and the opening of the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India. When Noëlle first studied with Iyengar in Pune in 1959, he was still teaching his pupils one-on-one at his home. During her stay in India, Noëlle was regarded virtually as one of the household, and this intimacy continued in their subsequent letters, where Iyengar wrote to her more as a colleague and friend than as a teacher. We are fortunate to include Noëlle's Indian Journal for 1959 and her Early Life of B. K. S. Iyengar, translated into English especially for this edition, for the intimate glimpses they give of Iyengar's personal life and family. Sparks of Divinity is also a testament to the deep bond between teacher and student. In an Afterword about Noëlle, we learn how an early suggestion from Iyengar moved her in a completely new direction, and how she attributes her discoveries about Aplomb (natural balance) to Iyengar's ongoing inspiration.
