by Iris Johansen

In #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen's electrifying novel, two hearts are thrown together by fate--and united by irresistible desire. Determined to confront the notorious playboy, Damita disguises herself in the ridiculous harem uniform of the hotel's maids and storms into Cam's room, where she surprises him in bed with a sultry blonde. More shocking to Damita is her own reaction to his perfectly chiseled physique. Although Cam is instantly taken with the voluptuous redhead who's not afraid to give him a piece of her mind, he always errs on the side of caution. That's why he refuses to disclose the whereabouts of his dear friend Lola until he checks out Damita's story. Besides, it buys Cam a little time to thoroughly seduce his unexpected guest--and do everything it takes to make her fall in love with him.

Blue Skies, No Candy

by Gael Greene

Not Since Henry Miller has a book about sex caused such a furor. A National Best Seller, Gael Greene's Blue Skies, No Candy was greeted in 1976 with shock and outrage by male critics and was championed by women. Ads for the daring paperback were banned from New York City's subways. But it has continued to be an underground classic of erotica decades after going out of print. "Bed is where I'm making it these days..." Thus begins the witty and utterly uninhibited confessions of Kate Alexander. Kate is a woman who has everything: professional success as a screenwriter, adoring husband, well-balanced offspring... all the ridiculous, delicious trappings of celebrity in Manhattan. But the panic of turning 40 and the struggle to stay at the top in a profession where there are few women have eroded her confidence. The one place she feels comfortable is... bed. Behind the devotion she feels for her husband Jamie is a hurricane of sexual energy. Her afternoons are devoted to acting out erotic fantasies that crowd her head. None of this must ever threaten her life with Jamie. But then she meets Jason the urbane Texan who is her match, the man who knows Kate better than she knows herself. Their odyssey through the truffle fields of France, as Kate dares every carnal risk, escalates into what could be love... or just sexual obsession.

Blue Skies: A Novel

by T. C. Boyle

"Boyle’s satire has lost none of its edge over the course of a nearly half-century literary career . . . [Blue Skies is] an expert blend of suspense, terror and, occasionally, very black humor . . . this fiercely honest writer shows us what he sees and invites his readers to draw their own conclusions." —Wendy Smith, Washington Post From best-selling novelist T. C. Boyle, a satirical yet ultimately moving send-up of contemporary American life in the glare of climate change. “Boyle has long been one of the most exciting and intelligent storytellers in the United States.” —Ron Charles, Washington Post Denied a dog, a baby, and even a faithful fiancé, Cat suddenly craves a snake: a glistening, writhing creature that can be worn like “jewelry, living jewelry” to match her black jeans. But when the budding social media star promptly loses the young “Burmie” she buys from a local pet store, she inadvertently sets in motion a chain of increasingly dire and outrageous events that comes to threaten her very survival. “Brilliantly imaginative . . . in a terrifying way” (Annie Proulx), Blue Skies follows in the tradition of T. C. Boyle’s finest novels, combining high-octane plotting with mordant wit and shrewd social commentary. Here Boyle, one of the most inventive voices in contemporary fiction, transports us to water-logged and heat-ravaged coastal America, where Cat and her hapless, nature-loving family—including her eco-warrior parents, Ottilie and Frank; her brother, Cooper, an entomologist; and her frat-boy-turned-husband, Todd—are struggling to adapt to the “new normal,” in which once-in-a-lifetime natural disasters happen once a week and drinking seems to be the only way to cope. But there’s more than meets the eye to this compulsive family drama. Lurking beneath the banal façade of twenty-first-century Californians and Floridians attempting to preserve normalcy in the face of violent weather perturbations is a caricature of materialist American society that doubles as a prophetic warning about our planet’s future. From pet bees and cricket-dependent diets to massive species die-off and pummeling hurricanes, Blue Skies deftly explores the often volatile relationships between humans and their habitats, in which “the only truism seems to be that things always get worse.” An eco-thriller with teeth, Boyle’s Blue Skies is at once a tragicomic satire and a prescient novel that captures the absurdity and “inexpressible sadness at the heart of everything.”

Blue Sky and Green Grass: Murder, Money Laundering, and Winter Farming in Alaska

by Ron Walden

Trapper Ken Whittle spent the morning pre-heating and preparing his Pieper Super Cub to fly so he could check his trap-line. The minus 20 degree weather made this a taxing task. Flying to the area of his traps was pleasant, but near the first lake on his route he came upon an airplane nose down in the trees. He landed to discover the pilot dead--frozen in his seat. In the aircraft were four duffle bags later found to contain marijuana, and a metal briefcase containing a large amount of money and a .45 automatic Colt pistol. Whittle wrestled briefly with his conscience before deciding to keep the money. He surmised that it was drug money and would not be missed, but the drug bosses did notice and sent henchmen to retrieve their money. This opened an investigation by the Alaska State Troopers and the NTSB which found that the pilot had been murdered and eventually uncovered a huge marijuana growing operation and worldwide importation of other drugs. Informants were found; circumstantial evidence gathered; but little real, hard evidence was brought to light to connect their suspect to the crimes. Trooper Sergeant and helicopter pilot, Karen Holmes, and her partner, Craig Stanton, must take time from the investigation to make daring rescues and cope with the mundane daily duties distracting them from the complicated, frustrating case.

Blue Sonoma

by Jane Munro

In Blue Sonoma, award-winning poet Jane Munro draws on her well-honed talents to address what Eliot called "the gifts reserved for age." A beloved partner’s crossing into Alzheimer’s is at the heart of this book, and his "battered blue Sonoma" is an evocation of numerous other crossings: between empirical reportage and meditative apprehension, dreaming and wakefulness, Eastern and Western poetic traditions. Rich in both pathos and sharp shards of insight, Munro's wisdom here is deeply embedded, shot through with moments of wit and candour. In the tradition of Taoist poets like Wang Wei and Po-Chu-i, her sixth and best book opens a wide poetic space, and renders difficult conditions with the lightest of touches.

Blue Stars: A Novel

by Emily Gray Tedrowe

In Blue Stars, Emily Gray Tedrowe has written an extraordinary novel about ordinary people, a graceful and gritty portrayal of what it's like for the women whose husbands and sons are deployed in Iraq. Blue Stars brings to life the realities of the modern day home front: how to get through the daily challenges of motherhood and holding down a job while bearing the stress and uncertainty of war, when everything can change in an instant. It tells the story of Ellen, a Midwestern literature professor, who is drawn into the war when her legal ward Michael enlists as a Marine; and of Lacey, a proud Army wife who struggles to pay the bills and keep things going for her son while her husband is deployed. Ellen and Lacey cope with the fear and stress of a loved one at war while trying to get by in a society that often ignores or misunderstands what war means to women today. When Michael and Eddie are injured in Iraq, Ellen and Lacey's lives become intertwined in Walter Reed Army Hospital, where each woman must live while caring for her wounded soldier. They form an alliance, and an unlikely friendship, while helping each other survive the dislocated world of the army hospital. Whether that means fighting for proper care for their men, sharing a six-pack, or coping with irrevocable loss, Ellen and Lacey pool their strengths to make it through. In the end, both women are changed, not only by the war and its fallout, but by each other.
