10 Years That Shook the World: A Timeline of Events from 2001
by Loretta NapoleoniSeptember 11, 2001, is considered the main event, but the changes of the decade go far beyond the menace of terrorism and the war on terror. The technological revolution, the wide use of the Internet, and the advent of social media are just some of the innovations that grew to define the decade. The war on terror and its strong rhetoric hid these phenomena. The purpose of this book is to show the true patterns of change--those innovations that will influence coming decades. This is more than a timeline, it is the tale of an extraordinary decade. Within each year, Napoleoni presents events not in a strict chronology but more as we might remember them, often with the most significant events recalled first. Thus the main topics--politics, economics, people, technology, and the environment--cross over constantly, showing how they are all interlinked and how globalization is speeding up the pace of change in our world.
10 Years Younger Cosmetic Surgery Bible
by Jan Stanek10 Years Younger, launched in April 2004, was the first lifestyle series on British television to feature cosmetic surgery. Since then, increased acceptability, availability and affordability have prompted a massive rise in the number of cosmetic procedures carried out each year in the UK, with that number set to top a quarter of a million in 2007. It is now believed that 45% of women and 37% of men in the UK would consider cosmetic surgery.10 Years Younger has undoubtedly influenced the public's perception of cosmetic surgery and here, in the 10 Years Younger Cosmetic Surgery Bible, Jan Stanek openly and honestly discusses the pros and cons of each procedure. All aspects of each process are discussed - what it involves, who should consider it, what will it solve, what it won't solve, the cost, the potential risks, the potential reactions and the length of recovery. There are even before and after photos to show you what can be achieved. So, if you're considering a face lift, a boob job, a tummy tuck, or even just a Botox injection, this is the book for you.

100,000 First Bosses: My Unlikely Path as a 22-Year-Old Lawmaker
by Will HaskellThe underdog story of Will Haskell, who became a Democratic state Senator in 2018 at age twenty-two—taking on an incumbent who had been undefeated for Haskell&’s entire life and earning an endorsement from President Obama—and is determined to pave the way for his peers to transform government from the bottom up.President Obama left office with these parting words for Americans: &“If you&’re disappointed by your elected officials, grab a clipboard, get some signatures, and run for office yourself.&” Twenty-two-year-old Will Haskell decided to do just that. If he ran for office and won, he would become the youngest state Senator in Connecticut history. For years, Haskell&’s hometown had reelected the same politician who opposed passing paid family leave, fought increases in the minimum wage, and voted down expansions of voting rights. Haskell&’s own vision for Connecticut&’s future couldn&’t be more different, and he couldn&’t stand the idea of an uncontested election. In 2018, he would be a college grad looking for his first job. Why not state Senator? When Haskell kicks off his campaign in the spring of his senior year, he&’s an unknown college kid facing a popular incumbent who&’s been in office for over two decades—as long as Haskell&’s been alive. Haskell&’s campaign manager is his roommate and his treasurer is his girlfriend&’s mom. He doesn&’t have any professional experience. But he does have a powerful message: there&’s no minimum age to being on the right side of history. Six months later, Haskell&’s shocking upset victory gives him a historic seat in the state Senate and the responsibility to serve the 100,000 constituents in his district. Like any first job, his first term as a legislator is filled with trial and error. Creating a program that funds free tuition at Connecticut&’s community colleges—nice work. Falling asleep on the senate floor—needs improvement. In the tradition of Pete Buttigieg&’s Shortest Way Home and Greta Thunberg&’s No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference, 100,000 First Bosses is the story of how one twentysomething candidate waged the campaign of his young life, fought for change at the state capitol, and proved that his generation is ready to claim a seat at the table.
100+1 Problems in Advanced Calculus: A Creative Journey through the Fjords of Mathematical Analysis for Beginners (Problem Books in Mathematics)
by Paolo Toni Pier Domenico Lamberti Giacomo DragoThis book convenes a collection of carefully selected problems in mathematical analysis, crafted to achieve maximum synergy between analytic geometry and algebra and favoring mathematical creativity in contrast to mere repetitive techniques. With eight chapters, this work guides the student through the basic principles of the subject, with a level of complexity that requires good use of imagination. In this work, all the fundamental concepts seen in a first-year Calculus course are covered. Problems touch on topics like inequalities, elementary point-set topology, limits of real-valued functions, differentiation, classical theorems of differential calculus (Rolle, Lagrange, Cauchy, and l’Hospital), graphs of functions, and Riemann integrals and antiderivatives. Every chapter starts with a theoretical background, in which relevant definitions and theorems are provided; then, related problems are presented. Formalism is kept at a minimum, and solutions can be found at the end of each chapter.Instructors and students of Mathematical Analysis, Calculus and Advanced Calculus aimed at first-year undergraduates in Mathematics, Physics and Engineering courses can greatly benefit from this book, which can also serve as a rich supplement to any traditional textbook on these subjects as well.

The 100/442D Regimental Combat Team's Rescue of the Lost Battalion: A Study in the Employment of Battle Command
by Major Nathan K. WatanabeThis thesis examines the application of battle command during the 100/442d Regimental Combat Team's rescue of the First Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, the "Lost Battalion." As background, this study presents a brief history of the Japanese in Hawaii and the United States, of the formation and record of the 100/442d RCT, and of the battle to rescue the Lost Battalion. The contemporary concept of battle command is defined as per Army Field Manual 3-0, Operations (June 2001) and Field Manual 22-100, Leadership; Be, Know, Do (August 1999) and shown to encompass the World War II-era concepts of command and leadership. This study examines how the tenets of battle command-visualize, describe, direct-were applied by the 36th Division and the 100/442d RCT during the operation. Specific examples from the battle will illustrate both the use and neglect of the precepts of battle command and illustrate the importance of sound command and leadership techniques as well as the value of unit cohesion in present-day operations.
The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success
by Brian TracyThe 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success explains a series of practical proven methods, techniques, principles and "laws" that underlie virtually all business activity.
The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success
by Brian TracyWhat makes one business flourish while another fails? &“[This] book of laws has something for everyone who wants to be a success in any walk of life.&” —Gen. H. Norman Schwartzkopf In The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success, Brian Tracy draws on thirty years of experience and knowledge to present a set of principles or &“universal laws&” that lie behind the success of businesspeople everywhere, in every kind of enterprise, large and small. These are natural laws, he says, and they work everywhere and for everyone, virtually without exception. Every year, thousands of companies underperform or even fail and millions of individuals underachieve, frustrated by thwarted ambition and dreams—all because they either attempted to violate or did not know these universal laws. But ignorance of the law is no excuse! Tracy breaks the 100 laws down into nine major categories: Life, Success, Business, Leadership, Money, Economics, Selling, Negotiating, and Time Management. Drawing on a lifetime of observation, investigation, and experience, Tracy not only identifies and defines each law, he also reveals its source and foundation, whether in science, nature, philosophy, experience, or common sense. He illustrates how it functions in the world using real-life anecdotes and examples, and shows how to apply it to your life and work through specific questions, practical steps, and exercises that everyone can use—sometimes in just minutes—to begin the journey toward greater business success. &“Eloquently—yet practically—written . . . should be required reading for every entrepreneur, manager, and leader!&” —Scott McKain, author of The Ultimate Customer Experience
