A Laboratory Guide to the Anatomy of The Rabbit: Second Edition
by Edward CraigieThe present work does not in any way aim to replace Bensley's Practical Anatomy of the Rabbit, which has long since proved its value beyond question. The attempt has been to meet a need for a shorter and less detailed laboratory guide adapted to courses for which Bensley's Anatomy has been found too extensive. Classes for which the present book is designed have assignments of time for this subject varying from about twenty-four hours to about sixty hours. Some of them have two-hour periods and some have three-hour periods. Some, moreover, have need for special emphasis on certain parts which are of less immediate interest to others. Of the twenty-eight illustrations, fifteen are new and the remainder have been borrowed from Bensley's Practical Anatomy. Four of the latter were the work of the late Dr. Bensley, the rest were prepared by the present author.

In addition to containing similar information as A Gentleman at the Table, A Lady at the Table deals with topics that apply uniquely to women such as how to respond when men rise as you leave or approach the table, how to react when a chair is pulled out for you and when it isn't, what to do when a man orders for you, and how to pay the check graciously when you are hosting a man.

A Lifetime of Seasons: The Best of Christopher Lloyd
by Christopher Lloyd'He was the best informed, liveliest and most innovative gardening writer of our times' GUARDIAN'Infuriating, irascible ... a brilliant gardener and a brilliant writer' Monty Don, ObserverChristo Lloyd was recognised as one of the foremost gardeners and garden writers of the 20th century. Here, for the first time, is the definitive collection of his best, most informative, and so often amusing, garden writing.Christo on gardening: Ours, in its humble way, is an art as well as a craft. At the same time it keeps us in touch with the earth, the seasons, and with that complex of interrelated forces both animate and inanimate which we call nature. It is a humanizing occupation. On weeding:Many gardeners will agree that hand-weeding is not the terrible drudgery that it is often made out to be. Some people find in it a kind of soothing monotony. It leaves their minds free to develop the plot for their next novel or to perfect the brilliant repartee with which they should have encountered a relative's latest example of unreasonableness.
A Literary Approach to the New Testament
by John Paul PritchardFrom the book: The literary approach views form and content as one and is concerned with what the book is. Just as the literary interpreter of Chaucer requires a wealth of information and insight concerning the times of Chaucer and the influences at work in him, so the literary interpreter of the New Testament requires information about it and insights into it. Knowing what the book is in itself and in its relations frequently clarifies significantly what the book means. General readers will profit from the presentation of this knowledge in developing their own insights into the New Testament. In asserting that the reader of the New Testament will find greater reward and understanding if he is a Christian, there is no intent to belittle the values of the book for non-Christian readers. Such readers should, however, exercise what Coleridge described as "the willing suspension of disbelief for a season" in order to enter, at least temporarily, into the spirit of the work. If we endeavor to read in this spirit, we shall find the work richer and more rewarding. For literary interpretation of the New Testament, the traditional Sunday school presentation has contributed little beyond acquainting children with episodes and agents. In it books are seldom treated as wholes made by an author with specific purpose and artistic designs. Books are to be analyzed upon sound anatomical principles for study of what they are before ideas for moral and religious instruction are drawn from them.

A Long Saturday: Conversations
by George Steiner Laure AdlerGeorge Steiner is one of the preeminent intellectuals of our time. The Washington Post has declared that no one else “writing on literature can match him as polymath and polyglot, and few can equal the verve and eloquence of his writing,” while the New York Times says of his works that “the erudition is almost as extraordinary as the prose: dense, knowing, allusive.” Reading in many languages, celebrating the survival of high culture in the face of modern barbarisms, Steiner probes the ethics of language and literature with unparalleled grace and authority. A Long Saturday offers intimate insight into the questions that have absorbed him throughout his career. In a stimulating series of conversations, Steiner and journalist Laure Adler discuss a range of topics, including Steiner’s boyhood in Vienna and Paris, his education at the University of Chicago and Harvard, and his early years in academia. Books are a touchstone throughout, but Steiner and Adler’s conversations also range over music, chess, psychoanalysis, the place of Israel in Jewish life, and beyond. Blending thoughts on subjects of broad interest in the humanities—the issue of honoring Richard Wagner and Martin Heidegger in spite of their politics, or Virginia Woolf’s awareness of the novel as a multivocal form, for example—with personal reflections on life and family, Steiner demonstrates why he is considered one of today’s greatest minds. Revealing and exhilarating, A Long Saturday invites readers to pull up a chair and listen in on a conversation with a master.
