Christ Our Mediator: Finding Passion at the Cross (LifeChange Books)
by C. J. MahaneyWHAT'S THE KEY TO HAVING MORE PASSION FOR CHRIST, THE CROSS, AND THE GOSPEL ? The answer is to look at the death of Christ not from our point of view, but from God's. That's what this book helps you do in a profound, strategic, and life-changing way. Author C. J. Mahaney exposes our human tendency to look at the Savior's death (and at everything else!) through our own subjective feelings and impressions, rather than from the standpoint of objective truth. By nature we always begin with ourselves rather than with God. But by following the God-first "Divine Order" in how we think--and by asking "What do I believe?" instead of "How do I feel?"--we're freed up to embrace the right truth in the right way. The right feelings quickly follow, and they're reliable because they're anchored in truth. The Secret to Sustaining Joy Do you desire more passion for Christ? Then learn to see His death not from our point of view, but from God's. Author C. J. Mahaney puts you at our Savior's side--and into His soul--during the most emotionally wrenching moments of His final hours. As you better understand the true nature of His struggle, you'll grasp more than ever the staggering significance of why Jesus died...and fully experience His sacrifice as a personal act of love for you. Allow the deepest truths of Calvary to stir your passion for Christ our mediator into a flame that burns your whole life long. Story Behind the BookThere's nothing more overpowering than to climb Calvary 's hill in childlike attentiveness and wonder, with all our distractions and wrong assumptions cleared away. This book was written that we might be gripped by gratitude and enflamed in passion for the Savior, Christ our Mediator, who suffered the Father's righteous wrath for us.From the Hardcover edition.

Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places: A Conversation in Spiritual Theology
by Eugene H. Peterson"Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places" reunites spirituality and theology in a cultural context where these two vital facets of Christian faith have been rent asunder.
Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places: A Conversation in Spiritual Theology (J. J. Thiessen Lectures)
by Eugene H. PetersonChrist Plays in Ten Thousand Places reunites spirituality and theology in a cultural context where these two vital facets of Christian faith have been rent asunder. Lamenting the vacuous, often pagan nature of contemporary American spirituality, Eugene Peterson here firmly grounds spirituality once more in Trinitarian theology and offers a clear, practical statement of what it means to actually live out the Christian life.Writing in the conversational style that he is well known for, Peterson boldly sweeps out the misunderstandings that clutter conversations on spiritual theology and refurnishes the subject only with what is essential. As Peterson shows, spiritual theology, in order to be at once biblical and meaningful, must remain sensitive to ordinary life, present the Christian gospel, follow the narrative of Scripture, and be rooted in the "fear of the Lord" -- in short, spiritual theology must be about God and not about us.The foundational book in a five-volume series on spiritual theology emerging from Peterson's pen, Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places provides the conceptual and directional help we all need to live the Christian gospel well and maturely in the conditions that prevail in the church and world today.

Christ Still Heals: The Atonement of Christ Made Provision for Spiritual and Physical Healing
by Donald SpellmanDoes Christ still heal? Yes, He does, and in this book you will learn how the atonement of Christ not only provided for spiritual healing, but physical healing as well. Honest physicians will tell you they possess only the power to assist nature; they do not have the power to heal. When sickness and disease have advanced beyond the power of nature, only Christ can heal the one who is suffering.&“Apostle Spellman not only knows Christ as His Lord and Savior, He knows Him as his divine healer. He has written on this subject as the result of his third healing, and now the Lord has allowed him to share his story with readers, so that they, too, may claim their healings.&” - Pastor Steven E. Butler, House of Deliverance, Church of God in Christ

Christ Without Adam
by Benjamin H. DunningThe apostle Paul deals extensively with gender, embodiment, and desire in his authentic letters, yet many of the contemporary philosophers interested in his work downplay these aspects of his thought. Christ Without Adam is the first book to examine the role of gender and sexuality in the turn to the apostle Paul in recent Continental philosophy. It builds a constructive proposal for embodied Christian theological anthropology in conversation with -- and in contrast to -- the "Paulinisms" of Stanislas Breton, Alain Badiou, and Slavoj ?i?ek.Paul's letters bequeathed a crucial anthropological aporia to the history of Christian thought, insofar as the apostle sought to situate embodied human beings typologically with reference to Adam and Christ, but failed to work out the place of sexual difference within this classification. As a result, the space between Adam and Christ has functioned historically as a conceptual and temporal interval in which Christian anthropology poses and re-poses theological dilemmas of embodied difference. This study follows the ways in which the appropriations of Paul by Breton, Badiou, and ?i?ek have either sidestepped or collapsed this interval, a crucial component in their articulations of a universal Pauline subject. As a result, sexual difference fails to materialize in their readings as a problem with any explicit force. Against these readings, Dunning asserts the importance of the Pauline Adam--Christ typology, not as a straightforward resource but as a witness to a certain necessary failure -- the failure of the Christian tradition to resolve embodied difference without remainder. This failure, he argues, is constructive in that it reveals the instability of sexual difference, both masculine and feminine, within an anthropological paradigm that claims to be universal yet is still predicated on male bodies.

Christ among Us: Sculpted Images of Jesus from across the History of Art
by Joseph Antenucci Becherer Henry Martin LuttikhuizenNo single figure has been more often featured in Western art than Jesus Christ. Sculptures, particularly—though they have received less notice than paintings—provide some of the most moving representations in their capacity to show Christ alongside us in three-dimensional space. In this &“catalog for an imagined exhibition,&” two prominent art historians—one from the Roman Catholic tradition, one from the Protestant tradition—offer a guided tour of fifty-two sculptures of Jesus Christ from throughout the Western world. The chronological scope of the selection ranges from the third century to the present, with the work of well-known sculptors featured alongside the work of less familiar artists who deserve more attention.Along with lush, high-resolution photographs, each piece is accompanied by an essay that places it in context and brings it to life, so readers can experience the sculpture almost as vividly as they would in person. Those interested in devotional as well as artistic significance will find inspiration in the striking representations of Christ in his many forms: healer, sage, sovereign, and savior, from his humble yet majestic birth to his harrowing death and miraculous resurrection.
